ISTANBUL – A total of 38 people including 30 policemen, were killed and 155 injured when two bombs exploded near Vodafone Arena Stadium in the capital city of the country.
Multiple explosions occurred after a football match involving the country’s giants, Besiktas and Bursaspor yesterday.
According to the official who declined to be identified, a car rigged with explosives, detonated outside the stadium while a minute later, a suicide bomber detonated himself in a park nearby.
However, the local authorities did not specify mastermind the attack.
Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs, Suleyman Soylu said, a total of 10 suspects have been detained to assist investigations into the bloody incident.
“Activities of violence aimed at our security forces and civilians in Besiktas. We have seen once again the bombings in the country, “said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a statement.
In a related development, broadcaster TRT footage showed a burning car wreck images with members of the emergency services swarming around the scene.
In addition, some witnesses said the blast had shattered windows of nearby houses.
“I heard two explosions occurred in less than one minute, followed by gunshots,” said a witness who declined to be named.
After that. Prime Minister of Turkey, Binali Yildirim ordered that today declared a day of mourning and flags flown at half-mast.
