KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized more than 17kg of ganja after crippling a drug syndicate led by a local kingpin.

City police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said they raided condominium units in Kuala Lumpur and Kajang on June 24 and arrested two men and a woman aged between 24 and 31.

"We also seized 17.3kg of ganja worth at least RM43,200, which could be consumed by at least 34,000 users.

"Also seized were RM4,550 cash, RM15,000 worth of jewellery and a Honda CRV.

"The suspects have been remanded for five days to assist further investigations," he said in a statement on Monday (June 27).

"Our investigations revealed the drug kingpin for this syndicate was a local man," he added.

Comm Azmi said police also rounded up 229 individuals for various drug offences following a major drug crackdown.

“We conducted the Ops Tapis between June 21 and 23 and focused on the Project Perumahan Rakyat including PPR Desa Tun Razak, PPR Pantai Dalam, PPR Desa Rejang, PPR Sungai Bunos, PPR Intan Baiduri, Seri Terengganu flats, as well as Chow Kit and Putrajaya.

“From the 229 arrested, 11 were facing action under preventive laws, 21 for recurring drug offences and 10 others were wanted for various drug offences,” he said.
