PETALING JAYA: National squash player S. Sivasangari is out of the Commonwealth Games after being involved in a major accident on the Maju Expressway on Sunday (June 26).

It is learnt that the 23-year-old was the passenger of a car that hit a lorry on the highway.

She sustained severe injuries and had to undergo immediate surgery. She is now awake and stable.

The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to Aug 8.

Sivasangari was supposed to be the flag bearer together with national para-athlete Bonnie Bunyau.

The world No. 19 was a medal prospect in the individual and doubles events for the games.

It is the second time a high-profile athlete has met in an accident on Maju Expressway.
